Field Trip to Learn About Bike-Friendly Cafes

This month, we headed to the Bay Area for a field trip of sorts, as we continue early-stage conceptual development regarding the potential development on the site of the former Bell Rooms in downtown Redding. Our objectives of the trip were to:

  • Learn in a first-person way about bike-friendly establishments.
  • Reflect on what might fit where we live; why & why not?
  • Understand how places like these serve the vitality of the community

Together with our architects from Trilogy Architecture, we visited Lucky Duck Cafe, Tartine Manufactory, The New Wheel, and The Mill. We even got to watch the evening bike commute along Valencia Street. We saw a lot of things there were inspirational for this project and got some clarity on things that would not be a fit for Redding.
