Klamath River Renewal Corporation – Shasta Heritage Trail
The McConnell Foundation is supporting this important work with an investment toward construction of the Shasta Heritage Trail. This funding will help Klamath River Renewal Corporation (KRRC) complete the primary portion of the trail and create a full loop that begins and ends at the K’úcascas recreation site, formerly known as Fall Creek.
The McConnell Foundation’s investment is part of a broader $2.3 million project. Funding comes from foundation support, KRRC resources, individual donors, and approximately $300,000 in committed in-kind support from contractors. Together, these partners are helping turn a vision for restoration, education, and cultural preservation into a lasting community asset.
The project brings together environmental restoration and cultural revitalization. Through the Heritage Trail, The McConnell Foundation is helping create a space for public education and connection to the renewed Klamath River. Visitors will also gain a deeper understanding of the Shasta Indian Nation’s enduring connection to its ancestral homeland.
The completed trail will serve generations to come. It will provide opportunities for education, recreation, environmental stewardship, and cultural understanding. It will also help preserve and sustain a landscape of deep significance to the Shasta people.
