Position Summary

The Irrigation & Arboriculture Supervisor is responsible for overseeing irrigation systems, tree care, and related landscape infrastructure across Foundation properties. This role supervises staff, ensures best practices in irrigation efficiency and arboriculture, and maintains the health, safety, and sustainability of the Foundation’s landscapes.

The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of hands-on experience in landscape construction, irrigation installation, maintenance, and overall tree care. The ideal candidate can lead a team while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and stewardship.

Landscape Maintenance Facility Hours: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM 9/15 – 5/15. 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM 5/15 – 9/15.

 

Key Responsibilities

Irrigation Systems Management

  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems across all properties
  • Monitor system performance to ensure efficient water use and compliance with local regulations
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot irrigation issues, including valves, controllers, and distribution systems
  • Develop and implement irrigation schedules based on seasonal and site-specific needs

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Installation & Repair: Installing, repairing, and replacing PVC, and galvanized iron pipes, valves, controllers, and sprinkler heads.
  • System Maintenance: Inspecting and auditing systems for maximum efficiency. Programing and troubleshooting WeatherTrak controllers, irrigation systems, wiring, solenoids, and valves. Preform repairs on valves, irrigation pipe and sprinklers.
  • Water Management: Adjusting irrigation schedules based on weather, soil conditions, and plant needs to prevent waste.
  • Design & Planning: Oversee and assist in the design, layout and installation of new or upgraded irrigation systems.
  • Specialized Equipment: Operating equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, and specialized tools to locate leaks or electrical faults.

Tree Care & Arboriculture

 

Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Supervise and support landscape staff, including training and performance feedback
  • Plan and assign daily work tasks and prioritize projects
  • Promote a collaborative, respectful, and safety-focused work environment
  • Ensure staff are following Foundation policies and procedures

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Tree Management & Planning: Develop and implement long-term tree management plans; evaluate available space for current and future growth; select appropriate tree species for the right environment.
  • Risk Assessment & Removal: Conduct tree risk assessments to identify hazards; perform tree removal and stump grinding as needed.
  • Tree Care & Maintenance: Oversee and perform tree planning, pruning, health assessments, and removals while ensuring proper arboricultural practices are followed.
  • Health & Environmental Monitoring: Identify and respond to pest, disease, and environmental stress issues; assess soil conditions and local climate impacts on tree health.
  • Technical Knowledge & Identification: Apply knowledge of tree biology and species identification to support proper care and planning.
  • Climbing & Safety Practices: Utilize proper climbing techniques, adhere to industry safety standards, and operate chainsaws safely and effectively.
  • Inventory & Documentation: Maintain accurate tree inventory records and support long-term care planning.

Operations & Planning

  • Coordinate projects related to irrigation upgrades, tree maintenance, and landscape improvements
  • Assist the Director of Land Management with budgeting, cost tracking, and resource planning
  • Maintain accurate records of irrigation systems, tree maintenance, and completed work
  • Collaborate with other departments to support Foundation-wide operations and events

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with up-to-date safety standards and best practices
  • Conduct regular safety checks on equipment and work sites
  • Promote safe operation of vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Lead safety meetings

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3-5 years’ experience in irrigation systems (installation, maintenance, troubleshooting)
  • Knowledge and 3-5 years’ experience in arboriculture practices, tree health, and pruning standards
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Proficiency with smart irrigation controllers and related technology preferred
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying conditions
  • Valid driver’s license required; applicable certifications (e.g., ISA Arborist, Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT) or Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC) preferred).

Compensation: $33 – $40/hour, commensurate with experience
(Position will be through a temporary agency for a 90-day probationary period)
