Invitation for September 20th – Downtown: Stand up & be counted!

 In Community Vitality

A complete count of the downtown community will be important for Community Vitality. Here’s why:

  • Census counts influence funding allocations for our county that will affect our area for 10 years. Per The Funders Network: “Information collected in the census influences the way public officials distribute more than $800 billion in federal funds every year for services and programs like fire departments, hospitals, the national school lunch program & community health centers.” This is critical to community vitality in a big picture sense.
  • Zeroing in on downtown, our downtown Redding census tract includes many vulnerable populations which tend to be undercounted. As The McConnell Foundation commits to 10 years of investing in downtown, place-based funding allocations are a critical piece of the puzzle.
